Although exorcists managed to defeat Satan's physical vessel in ancient times, they could not erase his existence entirely due to the nature of demonic souls. Instead, they shattered his body into fragments and sealed his soul within a barrier that prevented him from reforming or directly influencing Assiah for millennia. Decades later, seeking a new path to Assiah, Satan attempted to manifest through the exorcist Yuri Egin roughly 15-16 years before the main story. This resulted in the birth of twin sons: Rin Okumura, who inherited Satan's soul and powers as his vessel, and Yukio Okumura, who remained human.
